Parish Retreat Day.

“ The apostles rejoined Jesus and told him all they had done and taught. Then he said to them, ’You must come away to some lonely place all by yourselves and rest for a while.’ (Mark 6:30)

Our monthly Retreat day offers you the opportunity and space to do just that!

On the third Sunday of each month, unless otherwise notified, we come together at the Parish Centre, on the grounds of St. Mary’s Church, from 11.00am until 2.00pm, where a peaceful and relaxed environment and sacred space is set, complete with a creative centre piece and soft music.

We are offered some helpful hints to assist us in our time of quiet prayer.

We are led in guided meditations.

We explore various methods of prayer, such as Lectio Divine, The Jesus Prayer, use of the Mantra in prayer, using creation as a focus for prayer, etc.

Most importantly, we are given time and opportunity to be alone with God.

We bring our own lunch, with tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

Pope John Paul 11 said,

“Yes, dear brothers and sisters, our Christian communities must become genuine ‘schools’ of prayer. Where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion, until the heart truly ‘falls in love’.

Intense prayer… does not distract us from our commitment to history: by opening our heart to the love of God it also opens it to the love of our brothers and sisters and makes us capable of shaping history according to God’s plan.” (Nova Millennio Inuente, 2001)
