T The Parish does not currently have an Active Youth Ministry If you have a view on how we can encourage and Develop Youth participation in our Parish, please discuss with Fr Peter.
What
is Youth Ministry??? Basically, youth ministry is giving young people a chance to find out about God and whether or not they want to have faith in their lives. Youth Ministry is not
religious! One of the most important parts of youth ministry is the fact that it is not a set of lessons on how to make the sign of the Cross, or pray to Mary. It is about exploring and discovering faith. Yes it has to do with the Church and is most definitely God related, but being religious and having faith are very different entities until you have the desire to combine the two. Youth
Ministry is not boring! It
is a fact that teenagers and young adults are notorious for being some
of the most “un-boring” people on the planet! If youth ministry was
simply a “shoving God down your throat” exercise that only happened
one hour a week, then we would have to call it “I really can’t be
bothered but I feel obliged to go ministry.” Through fun activities
such as games nights and camps, young people can be in their element
having as much fun as possible and find out about God at the same time. What Youth
Ministry could be: Youth
Ministry is a way of helping young people grow in themselves and also
providing an opportunity for social activity within a Christian
environment. Activities could include games nights, camps, theme nights and reflection evenings where you
can get together with your friends and meet heaps of new people. We
could have
a youth Masses with a youth band and heaps of youth involvement. It can
be an area of the church run by young people too. It’s young people, ministering to other
young people. How
do I get involved? If you’ve got any suggestions or you would like to set up any of the youth activities, just email or talk to Father Peter and he will be pleased to discuss them with you.
